How to use this little-known Snapchat feature

Did you know you can check where your friends are via Snapchat? Yes, there is a Snapchat feature that enables you to see other people’s locations on Snap Map. And yes, you are visible on it too, unless you turn it off. Snap Map uses your smartphone’s GPS to update your location on the app. Note that this feature isn’t new to Snapchat, but somehow, a lot of users still don’t know about it. Here, we’ll tell you how you can check others’ location, and how you can turn this feature off in case you find it too intrusive. There is also an option of only sharing your location with select contacts.

Here’s how you can see your friends’ locations:

Step 1: Open Snapchat
Step 2: Pinch your fingers on the Snap screen from the corners of the frame to the middle to open Snap Map.
Step 3: This will open the map of the world and will show your friends’ Bitmojis on locations where your friends are. However, note that you will not be able to see your friends’ locations if they have tightened privacy on the app.

If you wish to have more privacy and not share your location with your contacts, or only share it with select contacts, here’s what you are supposed to do:

Step 1: Open Snapchat
Step 2: Open Snap Map by pinching your fingers on the Snap screen from the corners of the frame to the middle.
Step 3: Select the ‘Settings’ icon on top right. This will take you to a page where you can select who you wish to disclose your location to.
Step 4: If you wish to go completely invisible on Snap Map, select ‘Ghost Mode’. You shall still be able to see yourself, but with the Ghost icon next to your Bitmoji. By doing this, no one else can see your location on Snapchat.
Step 5: If you want only your friends to see where you are, then chose the option ‘My Friends.’
Step 6: Click on ‘Select Friends’ if you want only some people among your Snapchat contacts to see where you are. This will open your Snapchat contacts and you just need to select the ones you wish to share your location with.
