Facebook damage control mode on: Launches tool to remove apps

NEW DELHI: Popular social networking giant Facebook is still facing a lot of flak after the Cambridge Analytica data scandal. Taking lessons from the incident the company is now focusing more on the privacy settings of the users. The company has rolled out a new tool which enables bulk removal of third party apps and all the posts those apps may have published on your behalf.

The company confirmed the launch of the tool to TechCrunch and the tool was first spotted by Matt Navarra, who earlier asked the company to build a bulk removal option.

The new change comes in line with the announcements Facebook made last week about improving the privacy settings. Last week, in an official blog post Facebook said, “We already show people what apps their accounts are connected to and control what data they’ve permitted those apps to use. In the coming month, we’re going to make these choices more prominent and easier to manage.”

After the roll out of this feature it becomes easier for the users to get rid of the unwanted apps. The Facebook spokesperson told TechCrunch that this is just the beginning and they will do more things in improving the privacy of the users.

So, now when a user will go to the Apps section of their Facebook settings, then they can click on any number of third-party apps with access to their data and then remove them in bulk. Earlier, users had to go app-by-app in order to remove them which consumed a lot of time.

Facebook has also mentioned that it will not remove apps automatically if a user has not accessed them in over three months.
