WhatsApp gets ‘High Priority’ notification feature, ‘Dismiss as admin’ for web and iOS

NEW DELHI: Facebook-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp appears set to get some new features. These alleged upcoming features have been spotted in the latest beta update on Android. This also brings the WhatsApp beta app on Android to version 2.18.117. The new features include ‘High Priority’ notifications and the ‘Dismiss as admin’ feature on iOS and web.

Spotted by WABEta Info, the website that keeps track of WhatsApp changes, the 'High Priority' feature allows users to manage push notifications better. If the feature is switched on, users will see the incoming notification pinned on top of the notifications centre. This works in both private chats and groups. The particular feature can be accessed from the Notifications Settings menu.



Another feature called as ‘Dismiss as admin’ is specifically for WhatsApp Groups. This feature will allow groups admins to remove others from the admin position without removing them from the group. The particular option can be seen under the Group Info menu.

It has been mentioned that to use ‘Dismiss as admin’ feature Apple iOS and web users will need to update to v2.18.41 and 2.18.116 versions respectively.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp keeps testing new features in its beta app version. Many of these reach end-users, while some don’t. Few days ago the company updated its WhatsApp Payments feature on Android. It is said to work only if the payment is initiated by QR code or UPI ID. It does not work if the user selects the contact directly.

The update brings some cosmetic changes onboard and gives 'Send UPI ID' feature a more prominent position inside the app. This feature enables users to directly send money to the unique UPI IDs without going inside the chat thread. In order to use the new feature, users can go to the app Setting> Payments> Send Payment> Send to UPI ID.
