Vivo Y71 with ‘Face Access’, FullView display launched at Rs 10,990

NEW DELHI: Vivo, as Gadgets Now reported yesterday (April 12), has officially launched its Y71 budget range smartphone in India today. The handset will be going on sale across all offline stores starting April 14 (tomorrow) and on online stores like Vivo e-store, Flipkart, Amazon and Paytm mall starting April 16. Priced at Rs 10,990, the handset aims to bring some of the premium V-series features to those with tight pockets.

The Vivo Y71 sports a 6-inch HD+ ‘FullView’ display with 18:9 aspect ratio and boasts a design using a ‘high polymer nano-blasting technique’. Vivo is also stressing on the fact that its Y71 has ‘Face Access’ that scans the facial features and not just unlocks the device but also lowers the volume when the user is looking at the screen among other tasks.

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor, the handset is claimed to feature an AI-based 13MP rear camera with PDAF. Based on the face of the subject, the camera adjusts the lighting to get the best results. The front-facing 5MP camera features an AI-based Beauty feature that can identify the gender, age, skin tone and the texture to auto apply beauty effects.

Running Android 8.1 Oreo-based Fun Touch OS, the Vivo Y71 includes 3GB RAM, 16GB in-built storage and 3360mAh battery with Vivo Smart Engine to boost the battery performance. Some of the basic connectivity features include support for 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.

It is worth adding that the Y71 is also one of the company’s first in the series to feature a bezel-less ‘FullView’ display. We have already seen features like this in the Vivo V-series smartphones but trickling it down to a more budget line up is likely to come as a boost for the Y-series.

According to Counterpoint research, Vivo was among the top ten brands that saw a growth in terms of smartphone shipments. Some other brands were Xiaomi and Oppo.
