Samsung launches smartphone that 'blocks internet'

South Korean tech giant Samsung has announced the launch of Galaxy J2 Pro for the Indian market. The handset comes across as any budget smartphone from the specifications, but it comes with a special feature that "blocks mobile data such as 3G, LTE, and Wi-Fi." This phone is slated to cater to the needs of senior citizens or students who do not want to use internet.


As per Samsung, the Galaxy J2 Pro "supports basic usability such as phone, message, and camera, but it is a product that blocks mobile data such as 3G, LTE, and Wi-Fi". It further states that the phone caters to the needs of those who need to focus on learning and needs of senior users who are sensitive to data charges.

One of the features of the smartphone is that it can be used for foreign language learning by using the dictionary app called 'Diodic4' which supports Korean, English, Korean and English dictionaries along with data block.
The Galaxy J2 Pro runs on Android (version unspecified) therefore users can install and run apps on it.

In terms of specs, the handset has a 5-inch qHD Super AMOLED display of 960×540p resolution. Powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core processor, paired with a 1.5GB RAM. The device is backed by a 2,600mAh replaceable battery. There is a 5 megapixel camera on the front and an 8-megapixel camera on the back of the Galaxy J2 Pro.

The Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro will be selling in Korea, starting today (April 13) for 199,100 KRW (Rs 12,140) in two colour options -- Black and Gold. There is no word on the international availability of the device. To mark the launch of the Galaxy J2 Pro, Samsung has said they will make special promotions for potential buyers aged 18 to 21 by June 30.
