You 'may find' Samsung in this year's iPhones too

The special anniversary iPhone X has been a talking point for many reasons. One of them was that Apple had to partner with its biggest competitor Samsung for its OLED display for the device. However, the latest report from Wall Street Journal is to be believed, this alliance is not ending anytime soon.

The report added that due to this, opinions within Apple are divided on whether LG Display can become a second source of OLED displays for the upcoming iPhones.

Reportedly, Apple asked LG to go through a third round of prototype production for the OLED panels, an uncommon practice for most component manufacturers.

Previously, it was reported that Apple is going to make two new OLED iPhones, one 5.8-inch model, likely to be made by Samsung, and the bigger 6.5-inch model, which was supposed to be made by LG. Also, Apple is expected to begin with trial production of the 2018 iPhone series by Q2 at the earliest. according to a report by Digitimes. The report, citing sources from Taiwan-based IC design houses, adds that Apple is hurrying up as it doesn’t want to ‘repeat of the mishap caused by the initial low yield rates on production of 3D sensor modules for those models introduced last year.’

In a separate report by Bloomberg, it was revealed that Apple is designing its own display panels for the first time. The report said that the Cupertino-based tech giant is making a major investment in the development of MicroLED screens, which are said to make the devices slimmer, brighter and less power-draining. As per the report, these are said to be part of upcoming Apple Watch series, but if Apple is able to make this happen, this may lead to future iPhones sporting company manufactured displays.
